Tom was born in New York City on February 5, 1951, and he grew up in Berkeley Heights, New Jersey. He graduated from Harvard College in 1973 with a major in government. He graduated magna cum laude from New England Law | Boston in 1982. He clerked for the Honorable A. David Mazzone of the U.S. District Court for the District of Massachusetts from 1982 to 1983. He is licensed to practice in all courts of Massachusetts, the U.S. District Court for the District of Massachusetts and the 1st Circuit Court of Appeals. In his spare time during the summer, Tom sails a catamaran and tends a vegetable garden on Cape Cod. He is married to Marie and has two sons, Matt and Eric, a daughter, Charlotte, two cats and a dog.
